Say It Ain't So, Reggie!!!

If you've read my friend Shane's blog, you probably know where I'm gonna go in regard to the Reggie Miller rumors about the possibility of him signing with the Boston Celtics. Granted, the Celtics have completely revamped their roster over the offseason with blockbuster deals like aquiring Ray Allen from Seattle, and after a long drawn-out process, getting K.G. from the T-wolves. Those two all-stars combined with Paul Pierce only spells out one thing, Playoff (possible Championship) bound. But, I will agree with Shane that Reggie will have to be out of his mind to sign with them.

He had played his entire career with one franchise. That kind of loyalty is RARE, on both sides of the equation (team and player). He played above such personal desires like changing teams just for the chase of a ring. I'm reminded of Karl Malone and Gary Peyton, just to name a couple. His leadership, his character, everything he worked hard for and established in the hearts and minds of the die-hard Pacers fan will have fallen apart. The ONLY way I would approve of him coming back, would be if he signed with the Pacers.

J.O. has undoubtedly proven completely incapable of leading the team. Whether it's on or off the court, he's just as reckless as Jamaal Tinsley trying to dribble the ball. Reggie, he had heart...he played with fire, pure emotion...three attributes that are commonly tossed aside for a larger salary or a shiny ring.

I'm sure he's more than capable of returning. In fact, I'm sure he can still school over half of the shooting guards/small forwards in the league, but what would be the point of him coming back? He left the game with class, with dignity, and with the respect of not only Pacers fans, but basketball fans everywhere. I fear that if he returns, he will have shattered that image. Reggie's place in the Hall is guaranteed...he's had more clutch moments than any sharpshooter in history (can you say Superman?). What more does he have to prove? You're a Pacer Reg...don't sell out!

What's up T. As I told Shane and Mike, Drew has been sooooo excited about the Reggie news. I doubt it will happen but, I kind of hope it does. Reg deserves a ring, and between stupid trades and hoods on the club, he wasn't able to get one. Let him try. Why does it tarnish his career? did it ruin Ray Bourque's image in Boston??, No, Paul Molitor in Milwaukee??, just a few thoughts. PS - I told you the KG thing would happen, and believe it or not your sister called the Reggie thing last week. I mentioned they needed an outside shooter on the Celts after the KG trade, and Jen laughed and said "they should get Reggie Miller". Who knew?????

Talk to you soon.
